"We must become
the change we want to see." -
Mahatma Gandhi
As a citizenry we have been
tolerant, supportive and patriotic. We have bent, we
have worried, we have cried, and we have waited for
change; dynamic change that provides, that adds, not
subtracts. Change that shows vision and leadership. As
some have prospered, too many others have been lost.
We do live in two Americas, as former Senator John
Edwards tells, and as recent natural disasters have
proven, there is still too much poverty and sadness in
America. How can this be? How can we allow it to
continue?
Throughout the last five years,
as we have waited and watched, we have seen a constant
deterioration of the foundation of this great country,
chipping away at what was once proud, profitable and
possible. We have seen our Civil Liberties, our Middle
Class traditions, and our opportunities slip away
under false prophets called Presidents and Congressmen
and Senators. We cried as symbols of prosperity
crumbled, and then allowed the dust terror created
cloud all of us for far too long. We trusted and
allowed ourselves to be led into uncertainty. Many
still questioned and fought for answers. Sadly, too
many did not.
But change is once again at our
doorsteps and we now must be prepared to embrace a new
reality that is inclusive of what America still means
to many people. No longer willing to be lazy in our
will for change, it will be you and me that usher in a
new paradigm for change that remembers our past,
protects the current, and envisions an all inclusive
future. For people of great compassion and purpose,
the kind of change we seek requires leadership that is
bold and unafraid, and if enough of us are willing to
draw that line and say proudly that we no longer
accept that only one party can own a philosophy or a
religion, or patriotism, then we have begun to heal
from the policies of fear and from those who have
blindly followed, like my opponent.
Who am I and what do I stand
for? These pages will quickly fill with my vision and
my leadership. Bold in my passion and confident in my
beliefs, I believe I am hope. I believe that I am
change. And I believe that change is needed now, more
than ever.
Walk with me as we lead by
doing and we build by working.
